"I'm not sure. It's in his aura and something I got from his hand and his cards. Something I have never encountered before."
"His aura? Come on, Paula. That sounds so sixties: peace, love, what's your sign, all that."
"I have never seen an aura like his," Paula said, as if Kyna hadn't interrupted. "It is both green and black, both angry and kind. The combination confuses me."
"But he wouldn't hurt me? I mean, even if he were hungry or mad?"
Paula smiled. She couldn't help it. "No, not even if he were starving. I have never seen a werewolf before, but my mother told me many stories about them. Did you know that a past president of the United States was one?" Kyna looked at her in disbelief. "They are as rare as black holes, but they do exist. They have existed since the dawn of time."
"Monsters do exist, then?"
"They aren't monsters. They are merely men who happen to be able to change their physical appearance. If the man is evil, then what he becomes will be evil too. If the man is good, the form he takes makes no difference. The spirit of the man controls the spirit of the beast."
"What should I do?"
"Do you love him?"
Kyna nodded.
"Truly love him?" Paula asked again.
"Yes. I guess this doesn't change anythingnot really. It'll just take some getting used to." Kyna smiled for the first time. "At least he's housebroken."

"He is very close," Paula said. "His minions reach out even as we speak."
Paula, Kyna and Cyrus were sitting around the card table once more. Paula had watched as Kyna cut the tarot cards into four stacks, and then she turned over the top card from each pile. She had already examined Kyna's palm. Now the witch's forehead was creased with concentration. After a moment, she
